Willmott Dixon tops contracts league after £136m Luton win

Willmott Dixon has topped the November work-won rankings after bagging a £136m mixed-use scheme in Luton town centre and a run of education jobs that pushed it clear of the chasing pack.

Its flagship Luton Stage project, procured through the Southern Construction Framework, will transform the old Bute Street Shoppers car park into a major new destination with 292 flats, commercial space and a purpose-built events venue.

Morgan Sindall took second place after another strong month of regional wins, led by a 217,000 sq ft science and innovation building in Manchester’s Knowledge Quarter worth around £100m, alongside a £40m leisure centre job in Stevenage.

Balfour slotted into third with the latest section of A9 dualling between Pitlochry and Killecrankie in Scotland.

According to data compiled by Barbour ABI, the top 50 contractors bagged around £3bn spread across 127 projects, down from £3.45bn in October illustrating continued client hesitancy in an uncertain market.

In the rolling rankings for work won over the last 12 months Mace leapfrogged Strabag with confirmation of its £200m Paddington overstation office project in London.
