Wates wins fit-out for Manchester First Street Hub

Wates has secured the fit-out job for the Government’s new hub building at First Street in Manchester.
The Government Property Agency has appointed Wates’ Smartspace arm for the Cat B fit-out of the nine-storey building delivered by BAM Construction.
Launched as part of the GPA’s Government Hubs Programme, the Manchester First Street Hub will accommodate around 2,600 civil servants from the Ministries for Housing,  Business and Trade, Education and Office for Standards in Education.
Work is expected to complete in Autumn 2026.
The £105m development, which was forward-funded by the Pension Insurance Corporation (PIC), supports the Government Hubs Programme’s aim of securing growth across the country.
Scott Camp, Managing Director of Wates’ fit-out and refurbishment business, Smartspace, said: “We are delighted to continue our successful partnership with the Government Property Agency following our work at Darlington Economics Campus and 2 Ruskin Square in Croydon.”
