Thames Water to start £840m major projects framework race

Thames Water to start £840m major projects framework race

Thames Water is preparing to launch a nine-year Major Projects Framework worth up to £840m to deliver some of the biggest schemes in its AMP8 capital programme.

The framework will be used to deliver large-scale construction and engineering works across London and the South East, including critical asset upgrades, new infrastructure and resilience improvements to support water and wastewater services.

Thames Water said the deal, which has scope to extend into AMP9, is designed to cut repeated tendering and instead foster long-term partnerships with Tier 1 contractors.

The bid contest formally kicks off on 18 September with an Invitation to Negotiate launch event, following an earlier market engagement phase that helped shape the strategy.

Contractors interested in bidding individually or as part of a consortium will be expected to attend to receive full details of the ITN documents, evaluation process and contract terms.

A tender notice will be then published on 19 September with requests to participate due back by 10am on 15 October 2025.

Thames Water expects to announce framework partners in March 2026, allowing contracts to start from 30 March 2026.

The deal will initially run until March 2033 but could be extended until July 2035, depending on supplier performance.

Projects awarded under the framework will range from major treatment plant upgrades to new pipelines, pumping stations and associated civil engineering works, as Thames Water pushes to modernise ageing assets and deliver its share of the industry’s £100bn AMP8 investment drive.

Registration for the event closes at 12 noon on 12 September. Click here for details.
