HMRC’s annual report for research and development (R&D) tax credit claims for the year 19/20 found the construction industry claimed back £400m, with 6,015 claims submitted. Construction R&D claims have risen from the previous year which is consistent with the trend which has occurred over the last few years. In fact, since the 14/15 financial year when the cash tax benefit of R&D claims in construction was approx. £35 million, the value of construction claims has risen by more than 1,000%. A total of 85,900 claims throughout all industries were made overall up until 31 March 2021. This figure will continue to rise as the 19/20 claims window remains open until March 2022. hub South West – the public-private partnership of local authorities, NHS, blue light services and a number of leading construction industry contractors – has reached a financial close with South Ayrshire Council and leading Tier 1 construction group, Morgan Sindall, to begin work on a £55m project to create a new Community Education Campus in Maybole, set to open in August 2023. The Scotland and Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers’ Federation has once again demonstrated its commitment to innovation by securing valuable funding for research into the way the industry progresses towards a net zero society. Work is well under way on a major new £18 million Education Campus in South Ayrshire after pupils, councillors and members of the local community gathered last month to celebrate the official start of construction on the new Prestwick Educational Campus. Prestwick Educational Campus will be developed on the site of the existing Glenburn Primary School and will accommodate the school’s current intake, as well as the relocation of the nearby St Ninian’s Primary.
