Speller Metcalfe trebles profit in record year
Midlands-based Speller Metcalfe has more than trebled pre-tax profit to £3.4m as turnover rose 22% to £162m in the year to March 2025.
The family-run building contractor, led by second-generation joint managing directors James and Adrian Speller, restored operating margin to 1.6%, up from just 0.5% last time.
Year-end cash also strengthened in improved trading to £24m from £19m, giving the firm extra headroom to reinvest and support growth.
Looking ahead, the firm has secured close to £140m of turnover for the 2025/26 financial year.
Beyond this, a further £100m of projects secured through project construction services agreements will extend the pipeline well into the next financial year, reflecting a robust and confident future order book.
Adrian Speller added: “James and I see ourselves as custodians of this second-generation family business.
“We’re not here to make a quick return and walk away – we’re committed to reinvesting profits back into Speller Metcalfe to support future generations.”
James Speller, managing director, said: “We’re proud to be delivering strong results by staying true to who we are – a family business grounded in long-term thinking, not short-term wins.”
