RED wins £31m London Shoreditch student digs job
RED Construction has sealed a £31m deal to revamp a major student accommodation block in Shoreditch on the City of London fringe.
The London arm of the specialist contractor was signed up by Infrastructure Investments following the successful delivery of £1.8m of enabling works by RED’s Special Projects team.
The job will see RED London refurbish and extend Willen House, close to Old Street Station, boosting the building from 47,000 sq ft to over 70,000 sq ft.
Work includes taking the block up from six to eight storeys with a new façade featuring high-performance windows and glass-reinforced concrete panels.
Designed by ECE Westworks, the BREEAM Excellent-rated project will provide 208 student bedrooms across seven floors with two commercial units at ground level.
The student scheme is part of a growing pipeline for RED, with London, South West and Special Projects teams currently delivering over £75m of student accommodation projects across more than 500 beds.
