Police have caught a construction director who has been on the run for months after failing to appear in court on gross negligence manslaughter and safety charges.

Peter Clifford,62, formerly of Holland Road, Felixstowe was charged last October following the death of construction worker Dale Baker in December 2020.

Clifford was summonsed to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Friday 15 November 2024, but then failed to attend a subsequent hearing at Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday 20 March and was also absent at a further hearing on Friday 4 April.

Following his first failure to appear, the court issued a warrant for his arrest but he evaded capture until yesterday when he was arrested by Police Scotland officers at an address in Aberdeenshire.

He is currently in police custody in Scotland awaiting collection by Suffolk Police officers who will transport him back to Suffolk, where he will be put before the next available court on his return.
