Plans in for 44-storey Manchester resi tower

Developer Glenbrook has submitted plans to build a 44-storey residential scheme in Manchester city centre.

The developer has confirmed it will now seek to appoint a contractor this year to deliver the 364 flats project, adjacent to Deansgate Train Station at Whitworth Street West.

Subject to planning approval, the developer aims to start work on the Sheppard Robson designed scheme in early 2026.

Tony O’Brien, Partner at Sheppard Robson, said: “By opening up the site, we are creating vibrant public spaces and pathways that enhance connections across this part of the city.

The Whitworth Street West building will feature a distinctive arched three-storey colonnade

“The building’s terracotta, high-performance façade references both the existing and historic context, while introducing a distinctly modern addition to the evolving skyline of Manchester.”

Daniel Roberts, development director at Glenbrook, said: “Working closely with our environmental consultant and wider design team, we have explored every opportunity to reduce the development’s carbon footprint, resulting in the current scheme exceeding RIBA’s 2030 Climate Change Target credentials.

“The building has been designed to incorporate a range of renewable technologies and smart systems that promote efficiency and will reduce carbon in construction and operation.”
