Plan for film studios switched to data centre cluster

Plan for film studios switched to data centre cluster

Outline plans have been submitted to build a cluster of six data centres at Wycombe Air Park in Buckinghamshire.

The plans replace a previously approved scheme to build a film studio complex which hit the buffers when the promoter collapsed.

Under the new plan, the data centres will be built on a 13ha site in the south corner of Wycombe Air Park.

Nexus Planning put together the application for the data centre halls, substation and a gatehouse totalling around 580,000 sq ft.

Planning documents estimate construction costs will be in the region of £265m over a five-year build programme, sustaining 2,280 construction jobs.

Ollie Bell, Director of Nexus Planning, said: “The creation of this data centre responds to clear market requirements, addressing a significant need for datacentres in the UK, particularly in London and the South East of England. The development presents many opportunities on both a local and national level.”
