North East NHS trusts plot £3bn health estate overhaul
The Great North Healthcare Alliance is laying the groundwork for a £3bn, 15-year construction and infrastructure programme across the North East and Cumbria.
The Alliance – made up of Newcastle Hospitals, Northumbria Healthcare, Gateshead Health and North Cumbria Integrated Care – plans to start early market engagement with contractor ahead of a raft of upcoming procurement opportunities.
An initial £500m pipeline over the next four years is expected to include a string of transformative NHS schemes, building on previous work like Gateshead’s Metrocentre Community Diagnostic Centre.
The wide-ranging programme will tackle backlog maintenance while delivering new health facilities, pushing digital transformation and backing the region’s net zero targets.
Formal procurement is due to kick off from January 2026, with contract delivery expected to run from April 2026 to March 2041.
Ahead of an invitation to tender a supplier engagement session will be held in Newcastle on 11 July. Interested firms should email Lynsey Allan.
