Leeds iconic Tetley brewery building revamp approved

Developer Vastint UK has secured planning to revamp the iconic Tetley building in Leeds.

Work will now get underway next year on the full restoration of the 92-year-old brewery HQ as the historic centrepiece of the emerging Aire Park district.

The two-year refurbishment project will create public market hall and around 13,000 sq ft of office space.

Designs by Supervene and Enjoy Design retain the building’s distinctive art deco façade while reworking the internal layout.

The basement – long sealed off from public use – will be opened for the first time, and a new two-storey extension will add an accessible roof terrace overlooking the wider Tetley Triangle public realm.

The Tetley boardroom will be restored with original panelling and parquet flooring preserved.

Kirkstall Brewery, which has operated from the building since April 2024, will vacate later in 2026 to allow work to begin.

The upgrade will include significant improvements to energy performance and building services.

Vastint bought the building from Carlsberg in 2022 and is positioning it as the “crown jewel” of the 24-acre Aire Park regeneration, which will ultimately deliver an eight-acre city centre park, up to 1,350 homes and 800,000 sq ft of offices.
