Kier veteran joins RED boardroom
RED Construction Group has drafted in a Kier finance veteran and a hospitality sector specialist as it targets over £200m turnover.
The specialist main contractor has appointed Alastair Gordon-Stewart as its first full-time group finance director and brought in Michael Walsh as strategic director to strengthen its push into the luxury hotel market.
The twin hires come as RED marks its 10-year anniversary and reshapes its senior team to support what it describes as sustainable long-term growth as a more mature business.
Lat year the firm achieved near 50% growth to achieve £175m turnover doubling profit to £4m.
Gordon-Stewart joins with more than 30 years’ experience across construction and property development, including 12 years in senior finance leadership roles at Kier Group.
Walsh’s brief is to deepen RED’s footprint in hospitality, building on schemes such as the UK’s first branded net zero voco Zeal Hotel and refurbishment works at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel.
Chief executive and founder Graham Sturge said: “These appointments are an important milestone in the evolution of RED Construction Group.
“As we enter our second decade, our focus is firmly on sustainable growth as a settled and mature business.”
The appointments follow a wider leadership reshuffle last year, which saw Derek Quinn move into the chief operating officer role, Sam Hewitt become group commercial director for the construction arm and Jon Hayes step up as group chief commercial officer.
