Green light for 52-storey Isle of Dogs resi tower

Planners in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets have finally given the green light to a residential skyscraper on the Isle of Dogs in London Docklands.

Hong Kong private equity firm Gaw Capital and development manager City & Docklands plan to build a 52-storey tower with around 460-flats on the site of low-level office buildings at 4-5 Harbour Exchange Square.

Designed by Make Architects, the One East Point project is expected to support around 700 construction jobs a year during the 51-month demolition and construction period.

At 170m tall, the building will be the second tallest in the Millwall Inner Dock cluster, 15m shorter than the nearby Maddison building in the emerging residential zone.

The stepped, dual-core tower will create shared terrace areas.

The client team includes City & Docklands (development manager), WSP (structural engineer), Meinhardt (M&E Engineer) and Hoare Lea (Fire Engineer).

Simon Passer, MD of City & Docklands, said: “We are delighted with the positive outcome achieved at planning committee for One East Point, which will unlock underutilised office buildings to provide much-needed housing in this well-connected East London location.

“The project will bring significant improvements to the local community, including 120 affordable homes, a retail and leisure offering, and a much-enhanced public realm.”
