Galliford Try lines up new building chief for 2026

Galliford Try has shaken up its senior ranks with the promotion of long-serving operator Cliff Wheatley to its executive board.

Wheatley steps up to Divisional managing director of Building from 1 January 2026, taking over from industry stalwart Ian Jubb, who will retire in June after nearly two decades steering the contractor’s building arm.

Wheatley joined Galliford Try through the 2008 Miller Construction acquisition and has run the Building North East and Yorkshire business since 2014.

Operations director Jeremy Barnett will now move up to run the North East region.

Chief executive Bill Hocking said the internal promotions underline the “strength in depth” of the group’s management and praised Jubb’s role in shaping the Sustainable Growth Strategy out to 2030.

Hocking added: “Cliff joins the board at a very exciting time and I look forward to working with him as our Sustainable Growth Strategy to 2030 continues to build momentum.”
