Framework orders lift Tomlinson turnover to £93m

Derby contractor G F Tomlinson has grown turnover by 16% as a steady stream of public sector framework work underpinned trading during the year to June 2025.

Revenue climbed to £93m as the regional builder continued to rely on programmes such as Scape, Pagabo and Construction West Midlands for a consistent flow of education, civic and health schemes.

Pre-tax profit edged up to £1.17m from £1.01m with operating margin largely unchanged at around 1.1%, highlighting how margins across the sector remain tight despite improving workloads.

The group also strengthened its balance sheet with cash in the bank doubling year-on-year to £4.8m.

Directors said frameworks remain “the centre of our strategy and the heart of our business”, providing reliable pipelines of work and payment certainty.

Major contract wins during the year included the £16.4m Bramcote Leisure Centre in Nottingham and the £4.1m Worksop Family Centre.

Work is also set to start shortly on the £20m Priory Shopping Centre redevelopment in Worksop after demolition got underway last week.

Looking ahead, the contractor has already secured a strong pipeline of work for the new financial year including the £8.1m Cripps Hall scheme for the University of Nottingham, the £7.5m Stockhill Fire Station in Nottingham and the £9m Clinical Training Centre Phase 2.

Alongside contracting, the group continues to invest in its plant hire arm Total Hire and Sales, which delivered a £210,000 pre-tax profit following £890,000 of investment in plant, machinery and delivery vehicles.

The business is also progressing property development opportunities through its Carta ventures, including a retail scheme in Boston where infrastructure works for an M&S Food store are underway.
