Four arrested after hospital construction site burglary
Four men have been arrested after a burglary on a construction site within the grounds of Hinckley and District General Hospital.
Leicestershire Police officers received a report of a suspicious vehicle within the grounds of the Mount Road site around on Tuesday afternoon.
When officers arrived at the scene one of the two suspect vehicles was seen leaving the site and failed to stop for them. That vehicle was last seen heading along Rugby Road in Burbage.
It is believed a group of people broke into a premises which was currently under construction within the site of the hospital. They stole thousands of pounds worth of copper wiring and caused a significant amount of damage.
CCTV operators alerted officers to a second vehicle which was still on the site and suspects were seen running through the car park.
Following enquiries carried out, four men, aged 26, 27, 31 and 35, were arrested on suspicion of burglary. They have all since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Sergeant Fiona Day from Hinckley Neighbourhood Policing Area, said: “Our investigation remains ongoing and we are currently looking through CCTV and carrying out house to house enquiries in the area.
“It is sad that a community resource has been targeted in this way and no doubt this incident will have an impact on the ongoing work on the site.”
