Bouygues seals £119m deal for twin college builds in Wales

Bouygues has chalked up a £119m deal to build two major education facilities for Cardiff and Vale College under Wales’ Mutual Investment Model.

Work starts this month on the Barry Waterfront Campus and a new Advanced Technology Centre at Cardiff Airport, both due to complete by mid-2027.

Designed by Sheppard Robson, the Barry site will deliver a vocational hub for up to 900 students, complete with a working salon and training restaurant open to the public.

The Advanced Technology Centre will cater for 2,000 learners and focus on AI, robotics, composites and net-zero tech. It will also house a business centre and “green skills house” for renewable energy training.

Both buildings will be operationally net zero and built to Welsh Government decarbonisation targets.

Bouygues UK aims to use local subcontractors and offer apprenticeships during the build phase.

Philippe Bernard, ceo of Bouygues UK, said the project shows its “tangible contribution to the training of tomorrow’s talent and to the ecological transition of the education sector.”
