Altius and Erith win landmark London tower rebuild

Developer Altius Real Estate has been picked by Westminster City Council to redevelop one of central London’s most high-profile sites located between Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus.

The 1960s Huguenot House tower block will be bulldozed to make way for a mixed-use scheme featuring new flats, a cinema, hotel, offices and a redesigned public realm.

The deal will see Altius work with contractor Erith and architect Foster + Partners on a full-scale transformation of the 1960s block.

The decision follows years of consultation over the future of the site, with the council settling in 2021 on a full redevelopment as the preferred option.

Design work will now begin, with a planning application expected after public consultation.

Cllr David Boothroyd, cabinet member for finance and council reform, said: “The redevelopment of Huguenot House represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform a key site in the heart of the West End.”

He added: “Altius has demonstrated a clear commitment to delivering high-quality homes, including much-needed affordable housing, alongside vibrant community spaces and a reimagined public realm.”

On-site tenants and leaseholders will be supported throughout the works and have the right to return once the development is complete. Independent advice is also being offered as part of the relocation process.
